As protests against Israel’s war against Hamas in Gaza continue at various universities across the country, the White House says President Joe Biden respects the right of protesters to have their voices heard peacefully and that We want to make sure no one is harmed.” Some protests involve police intervention.
“The President knows that there are a very strong feelings about the war in Gaza.

He understands that, he respects that, and as he has said many times,”We certainly respect the right to peaceful protest. People should have the opportunity to express their feelings and share their opinions publicly, but it must be peaceful.”White House National Security Spokesman John Kirby told host George Stephanopoulos on ABC News’ “This Week” on Sunday.

But Mr Kirby warned that some of the comments heard during the growing demonstrations crossed the line with the government.

“We strongly condemn the anti-Semitic language we have heard recently, and we certainly condemn all hate speech and threats of violence in the world. I understand, but it has to be peaceful,” he said. “We’re leaving it up to local authorities to decide how to deal with these protests,” Kirby told Stephanopoulos. “But we want it to be a peaceful protest, and of course we don’t want anyone to get hurt in a peaceful protest.”
